At its core, the blues has remained the same since its inception. Most blues feature simple, usually three-chord progressions and have simple structures that are open to endless improvisations both lyrical and musical. The blues grew out of African spirituals and work songs. Blues reflects a certain musical style that is derived from the American Blues tradition and/or the African Blues tradition. We are looking for material that reflects, pays homage to, or advances that Blues tradition.
We are looking for:
- Strength of composition
- Relevance to category
- Delivery of composition
Although recording quality and production values are not governing factors in this category, we expect a reasonable standard. A strong piece will be severely hampered either by poor delivery or recording. The winning piece will be the one which best meets these requirements.
Entries are locked into category whether they are suitable or not. If an entry is incorrectly placed then it will be excluded from the marking process.
